This is a memory post. I want to remember to tell my kids about this time in our family's history. No cute pictures, just something to put a smile on my face in the future.
Nick works evenings. He has to leave home by 4:45 pm and then gets home again at 7 am. It's a really long night. We don't see a lot of him, but we want to have special times as a family when we can.
Since becoming a stay-at-home mommy, I've enjoyed meal planning and cooking. It's been fun to get involved again in the kitchen (and know before 5 pm what we'll be eating that night)! I like knowing that my family will have home cooked meals that I prepared for them. It's become such a satisfying part of my "new job".
Because Nick heads to work at 4:45, we eat dinner, as a family at the table most evenings, at 4 pm. Early? Yes. Worth it? Without a doubt. And since Luke goes to bed at 6:30 pm, we're able to eat together as a family when everyone is awake and happy.
Sometimes I feel silly making a meal at 2 pm. We feel silly whenever we spring for a meal out and go at 3:30 pm after the baby's nap for an early dinner. (BUT we get our choice of tables in the restaurant, and our little man isn't too distracting to the other customers!)
I'm glad for our afternoon times together. From 2:30 pm until 4:45 pm when Nick leaves for work, we're a family - sharing in stories, smiles, laughs and food.
